Madeira 4x4 Jeep Tour: Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Lava Pools

Discover the wild west and north coast of Madeira on a full-day 4x4 jeep tour with a local driver-guide. After pickup from your hotel in Funchal, head west along the sunny south coast to the seaside village of Ponta do Sol and stop in Canhas for a coffee or a local drink. Then climb into the mountains to Fanal Forest, part of Madeira's UNESCO-listed Laurisilva, where you have about an hour to walk among ancient, often mist-covered laurel trees and take photos.

Scenic back roads lead down to Porto Moniz, where you get around two hours for lunch, exploring and an optional swim in the natural volcanic pools. Continue along the north coast to the black volcanic sand beach of Seixal and the São Vicente valley, with its waterfalls and viewpoints. The day also includes a stop at Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, with its Skywalk viewpoint (entry fee not included).

The pace is relaxed and your guide adapts the stops to the weather and to what the group enjoys, with extra time for photos and nature. Lunch and drinks are not included. Pickup outside Funchal is available for an extra fee.
