Gorropu: trekking towards the most spectacular canyon in Sardinia

You will experience indescribable sensations in visiting one of the most suggestive natural monuments of Sardinia, you will find yourself in one of the wildest places on the island. Located between the municipalities of Urzulei and Orgosolo, it is about 1.5 km long, from the Cucutos point, it sinks for about 500 m.; on the bottom it narrows to reach in some places the minimum width of 4 - 5 m. These hard shapes make Gorropu a world pearl, an authentic masterpiece of nature and at the same time a precious treasure chest of biodiversity.

It is the most spectacular canyon in Europe, as well as one of the deepest. Gorropu is a gorge of erosive origin, one and a half kilometers long, which marks the border between the Barbarian territory of Orgosolo and that of Ogliastra Urzulei. It has been shaped over time by the strength of the Flumineddu stream that flows on the bottom, fed by waters that cross the Supramonte, partly infiltrating underground tunnels, partly re-emerging from sources downstream of the gorge.
